A pencil sketch of Frankie Manning, drawn by Denise Steele in 2011 for the Frankie Manning Show. Denise knew Frankie for over fifteen years as teacher, mentor and dance partner. This drawing came from a photograph taken while the two of them were dancing the Shim Sham — and it catches something a posed portrait never would: the loose, playful, improvisational way he moved, and the smile that went with it.
